To troubleshoot for bad passive fit due to an incorrect capture, please follow these guidelines.
1. Outdated OXO Fit software version
Make sure that the OXO Fit version you are using is the latest version. Please check that the OXO Fit software version, which is installed on your OXO Core, is the same as the one indicated in the Clients Area.
2. The meshes generated by the OXO Fit system are rotated
Check that the OXO Fit capturing .stl file has the meshes correctly oriented.
3. OXO Fit Beacons’ Positioning
- Before screwing the beacons, make sure that the type and the platform of the beacons are correct.
- Position the beacons in the best possible way as required by the case, following the scheme provided during the theorical and practical training. Additionally, the following considerations will need to be considered.
- The beacons must be placed in such a way that their encoding is oriented towards the OXO Core.
- Generally, straight beacons should be used in the posterior sectors of the mouth and angled beacons should be used in the anterior sectors of the mouth.
- Beacon 1 must be present in all the captures that are made since it is the reference source of the OXO Fit software. In addition, it must be placed on the most posterior implant in the fourth quadrant for captures of the lower jaw and on the most posterior implant in the second quadrant for captures of the upper jaw.
- Beacons placed on the most posterior implants should point lingually.
- The beacons placed on the implants that follow the most posterior ones must be oriented towards the vestibular area.
- Once verified that the beacon position is correct, tighten the screw 5/10 NW. (Important. Never handle the beacon with the screw tight. The lever force could cause serious damage to the instrument and the patient.)
- Check that the seating between the beacons and the transepithelial abutment/implant is done correctly.
4. Issues to be avoided with the OXO Fit Beacons
4.1. Seating issue
It is a problem caused by not being able to position the beacons at the base of the multiunit connection. This can be caused by any of the following causes:
Not tightening the screw correctly, causing the seat not to occur or the beacons to move accidentally during capture, which would lead to an erroneous result during capture.
Pinching a piece of tissue causing the inclination of the beacon to be incorrect and causing the software to generate an erroneous .stl file of the position of the implants.
4.2. Reflection issue
Any type of reflection (whether due to unwanted light or due to water/humidity) must be eliminated from the scene in order to avoid interference during the capture and/or beacon encoding.
Since the mouth is a highly humid environment, it is possible that the beacons are damp or wet before the capture is made. Therefore, it is very important to make sure before capturing:
- Minimize any light source, mainly with a high IR component, such as sunlight.
- Dry the beacons to remove any moisture they may have on the surface.
4.3. Beacon position problem
It is important to preserve the integrity of the beacon patterns, thus avoiding:
- That the beacons are too close together. This can be avoided by changing the type of beacon and/or orienting the beacons in another way so that the patterns are not so close together,
- That the beacons are very inclined, ie. the beacons have a large difference in inclination compared to the OXO Core. This can be avoided by placing the beacons in such a way that they are on the same angulation plane between them.
4.4. Occlusion problem
This problem occurs when some beacons obscure others in such a way that the software cannot detect the patterns. This problem can be avoided by taking the following steps:
1. Choose and correctly place the beacons.
2. Improve the capture perspective of the OXO Core.
3. Perform partial captures in the event that the 2 previous options have not solved the occlusion problem
4.5. Issue with dirt
Dust or other debris can obscure or distort beacon coding, leading to erroneous readings. It is therefore very important to prevent this type of situation by correctly irrigating and drying the beacons
5. Implants Position Capture
- Remember to attach the IR filter to the OXO Core and select the IR light with the OXO Core lighting control.
- Remember to consider the following factors:
- Opening of the patient’s mouth: It is recommended to open the patient’s mouth with a medium mouth opener.
- Distance: It is necessary to place the OXO Core device at a certain distance from the patient’s mouth in order for the system to correctly detect the beacons. To obtain this optimal distance, you should start at a distance of about 40 cm from the patient and move closer the OXO Core
until all the beacons are highlighted on the screen. - Perspective: It is necessary to move and angle the OXO Core to find the ideal point of view. The ideal perspective will be the one in which all the beacons can be seen correctly.
- OXO Core Movements: Once the capture has started, it is recommended to make smooth movements of the OXO Core to the right and to the left, as this makes the capture better, since more points of view are added to the capture.
